a flock of robins
flying in four directions
in their quest for spring
This haiku ... has a wonderfully expansive quality that suits the early spring season. On a literal level, I can see a small flock of robins grazing when
they are disturbed by something (perhaps the poet), whereupon they start up, flying every which way. To read that moment poetically as “a flock of
robins / flying in four directions / in their quest for spring” is memorably expressive and original.
